Where the Past Meets the Present
Northgate is where countless memories are made—whether it’s celebrating a big win, enjoying a night out with friends, or simply soaking in the unique energy that defines Aggieland. Without a doubt, Northgate is one of Texas’ most iconic entertainment districts and one of the most culturally significant landmarks for Texas A&M and its students. Preserving Northgate isn’t just about keeping tradition alive; it’s about ensuring that future generations of Aggies can create their own unforgettable memories in the heart of Aggieland!
Stores have come and gone. Bars have changed names and ownership. Still, Northgate has proven the test of time as a place to be in College Station. From grocery shopping in the 1960s to the premiere entertainment district today, the Northgate Historical District is a place where memories are made. They may not be the same memories as your granddad, but they are memories that will last a lifetime.
About Us
The Northgate District Association is made up of stakeholders that want to preserve Northgate Historical District which was the downtown of College Station in the 1930’s that was once the home of the original City Hall. Our mission is a multi-faceted approach that includes community engagement, adaptive reuse for modern needs while maintaining the historical character, and ongoing maintenance to ensure the site remains accessible and tells its story accurately to future generations; all while respecting the cultural significance of the mission to the local community.

History
Northgate’s roots started in the 1930s as the CITY began enjoying rapid population growth from the influx of Texas A&M University students, professors, and their families. Realizing that proximity to the campus would be a boon for revenues, the first business district was established in College Station near the campus, taking its name for the closest on-campus landmark: the NORTH GATE.
When the city was incorporated in 1938, its first City Hall was opened in the Northgate District.
